Perspectives on Child Poverty

In this salon we will discuss the future of child poverty, especially as it relates to education and human trafficking. The salon will mostly center around a talk by our speaker who has a wealth of knowledge on this subject. From a philosophical perspective we may consider global rights doctrine in the 21st century and the implication of human rights discourse on the institutional level. We will also examine various approaches to fighting child poverty and consider certain case studies in the Indian context.

Our speaker, Geeta Venkadakrishnan, the director of the HOPE Kolkata Foundation will discuss her work on the eradication of child poverty. Yvonne Neuman, who was the inspiration for this salon and is founder and director of VITAL, a charity that improves the lives of children living on the streets of Calcutta, will also share the work of her charity and experiences in this area.
