In the spirit of the ancient Greek agora and Enlightenment salon culture, the Public Sphere strengthens community by revitalizing the art of conversation, fostering the exchange of ideas and meaningful social interaction in physical space. We organize salons around the world that actively engage citizens in critical issues shaping society, culture, art and politics. Our city salons are free and open to the public.
Our resident composer, Zoë Gorman, has taken inspiration from the salon music of the 17th and 18th centuries, particularly the compositions of Chopin and Liszt, to create a piece of music for the 21st century, Public Sphere salon.
We will debut her piece and make a recording of it. We need your support to pay the musicians and for sound equipment, to create the recording.
In return, you will be invited to the performance and a private dinner with the artists, thanked on the Public Sphere website, and given the recording. Your generosity will contribute to the advancement of culture and women in the arts, will support female composers and musicians, and the production of an original piece of music.
The Public Sphere Brochure provides an overview of the ethos and activities of The Public Sphere, as well as a selection of articles on topics from our salons.
